SUMMARY:Getting the Most from your DNA Results
DESCRIPTION:Unlocking the power of DNA in your family history research.\n\n\n📅 Ages: Adults📌 Wasaga Beach Public Library card required for registration. \nDNA has become a powerful tool for genealogists\, but many struggle to understand how to fully utilize their results. Have you taken a test\, only to feel overwhelmed by the information? This presentation will cover DNA basics and provide practical strategies to help you make sense of your matches. Through demonstrations and case studies\, you’ll learn how to maximize your DNA results and integrate them into your genealogy research. \nAbout the Presenter:Nancy Leveque developed a passion for family history as a teenager and has been researching her ancestry ever since. Since 2006\, she has volunteered as the Newsletter Editor for the Simcoe County Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. In 2012\, she combined her love of history and writing to publish Researching Your Ancestors in Simcoe County: A Study in Migratory Patterns and Family History\, a guide she wishes she had when she began exploring her roots in the 1990s. Today\, Nancy shares her expertise through articles\, presentations to community groups\, and helping others with their genealogy projects.

SUMMARY:Home Horizon Youth Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Our Your S.A.F.E. outreach program works with additional vulnerable youth to identify safe living spaces and provides direction to assist them in regaining control of their lives. Our S.A.F.E. outreach programs serve youth aged 16-29. Since the launch of this program in July 2020\,we have served 127 youth\, with over 1085 service interactions (referrals\, goalsetting\, supplies\, workshops\, etc.)\, many in the Wasaga Beach area. \nThrough our outreach services\, we supply important items such as tents\, sleeping bags\, food\, hygiene products\, grocery gift cards\, masks & sanitizers\, jackets\, hand warmers\, clothes\, and much more. \nThe program also provides support and advocacy for mental health\, physical health (new family doctor)\, legal matters\, financial aid\, rental/tenant advocacy as well as referrals to other housing agencies. \nThe program has been an incredible success to date. It helps one of our most vulnerable populations to avoid falling through the cracks\, providing every individual who come in contact with our outreach worker the chance to feel safe and heard. We work with all marginalized youth regardless of their race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, family situations and socio-economic background. \nOur programs are designed to assist youth struggling with social inequalities with tools that will help them to cope and grow stronger to manage and address any bias they face in life.
