DESCRIPTION:Learn about why migration records are important to genealogists.\n\n\n📅 Ages: Adults \nThis workshop will examine the push and pull factors that had our ancestors leaving their countries of origin for a new life in a new country.  We will learn of early types of Emigration schemes that helped our ancestors establish themselves in Canada\, and the background history of the types of documentation that was created once they arrived.  We will have a look at immigrating groups of people and what history can tell us about why they life their home countries.  We will review research suggestions to help us explore the large databases and find ancestors. \nAbout the Speaker:Melissa J. Ellis approaches genealogy with an “outside of the box” mindset. She is the past-president of the Friends of the Archives of Ontario\, a graduate of the University of Strathclyde’s Post Graduate Certificate in Genealogical Studies program\, and the CEO and forensic genealogist at Archive Search—a firm dedicated to researching the past to connect with the living.

DESCRIPTION:This program is offered in partnership with La Cle in a hybrid format: participants may continue to participate remotely by Zoom\, if preferred\, or join the group in person at the library. \nPlease be aware that this program is offered entirely in the French language as conversational practice for adults 19 years+ who already know French. This is not a beginner instructional language class and is for intermediate to advanced learners wanting to practice their conversational French. \nRegister once by email with La Cle at: formation@lacle.ca and drop in by Zoom each week or in-person to Wasaga Beach Public Library – Group Study Room. A La Cle facilitator will send weekly reminder emails and the Zoom link. SUMMARY:Home Horizon Youth Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Our Your S.A.F.E. outreach program works with additional vulnerable youth to identify safe living spaces and provides direction to assist them in regaining control of their lives. Our S.A.F.E. outreach programs serve youth aged 16-29. Since the launch of this program in July 2020\,we have served 127 youth\, with over 1085 service interactions (referrals\, goalsetting\, supplies\, workshops\, etc.)\, many in the Wasaga Beach area. \nThrough our outreach services\, we supply important items such as tents\, sleeping bags\, food\, hygiene products\, grocery gift cards\, masks & sanitizers\, jackets\, hand warmers\, clothes\, and much more. \nThe program also provides support and advocacy for mental health\, physical health (new family doctor)\, legal matters\, financial aid\, rental/tenant advocacy as well as referrals to other housing agencies. \nThe program has been an incredible success to date. It helps one of our most vulnerable populations to avoid falling through the cracks\, providing every individual who come in contact with our outreach worker the chance to feel safe and heard. We work with all marginalized youth regardless of their race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, family situations and socio-economic background. \nOur programs are designed to assist youth struggling with social inequalities with tools that will help them to cope and grow stronger to manage and address any bias they face in life.
