DESCRIPTION:Through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)\, we will be hosting free tax clinics from February 24 through April 27\, 2024. Volunteers will file tax returns for individuals and couples with a modest income and a simple tax situation; see below for eligibility guidelines. \nNOTICE: Clicking the registration link below will open a form to add your name to the waiting list. A volunteer will contact you directly to schedule a date and time for your tax appointment.  \nIn order to be eligible for the CVITP\, individuals must have a modest income of $35\,000.00 for an Individual\, $ 45\,000.00 for a couple\, and a simple tax situation. \nThis may include: \n\nadults 65 years and older\nhousing-insecure individuals\nIndigenous Peoples\nmodest-income individuals\nnewcomers\npersons with disabilities\nstudents\n\nIn general\, a tax situation is simple if an individual has no income or if their income comes from these sources: \n\nemployment\npension\nbenefits\, such as the Canada Pension Plan\, Old Age Security\, disability insurance\, employment insurance\, and social assistance\nRegistered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)\nscholarships\, fellowships\, bursaries\, or grants\ninterest (under $1\,000)\n\nThe CVITP does not provide training or support for complex tax situations. Volunteers will not complete returns with the following: \n\nself-employment income or employment expenses\nbusiness income and expenses\nrental income and expenses\ninterest income over $1\,000\ncapital gains or losses\nbankruptcy in the tax year (or the year before\, if that return has not yet been filed)\ndeceased person\nforeign property (T1135)\nforeign income

DESCRIPTION:Join Master Gardener Marianne Lepa for an informative talk for the environmentally conscious who like to get their hands dirty in the garden\n\n\nPlants have the amazing ability to clean carbon from the air and store it in the soil where it can remain indefinitely\, if we let it. Unfortunately\, some of our traditional gardening practices can cause this stored carbon to be released back into the air creating more greenhouse gases and degrading our soil at the same time.  \nIn this talk we will look at how we can turn our backyard or veggie patch into a carbon sink and do our part to reduce greenhouse gasses at the roots while ensuring rich soil nutrients.  Join us in the South Re/Max room for the presentation.   \nAbout the presenter:Marianne Lepa is a Simcoe County Master Gardener and a member of the Collingwood Garden Club. She has been gardening her entire life\, learning the ropes in her mother’s enormous vegetable patch and her grandmother’s extensive rose garden. A market gardener in her younger years\, Marianne has always found a place to garden\, no matter where she lived. Almost retired from a career in Communications\, Marianne is turning her free time to encouraging backyard food gardens and native pollinator gardens. In Collingwood\, Marianne teaches a season-long course on vegetable growing for people who have never gardened before. She is passionate about community and allotment gardening and believes that gardeners have the opportunity to change the world for the better.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Mother’s Day with Elegance and Charm at the Wasaga Beach Friends of the Library Mother’s Day Tea. \nThe Friends of the Library will be holding their major fundraiser\, Mother’s Day Spring Tea on Sunday\, May 5th in the Remax Room at the Wasaga Beach Public Library. The event will take place from 1 pm until 3 pm with doors open at 12:30 pm. \nThis exciting event will include a full tea service including finger sandwiches\, freshly baked scones with homemade preserves\, a selection of sweet treats\, and of course tea! Music will be provided by talented local flutist\, Leslie Joosten and Guest Speaker will be Simcoe County Master Gardener\, Pat Cook. The afternoon will also include prizes\, games and a gift for all guests to take home. \nTickets for the Mother’s Day Spring Tea are $30 and are available at the Wasaga Beach Library\, Veronica’s Flowers and IDA. \nBy attending this event\, you’re not only treating yourself but also contributing to the Wasaga Beach Friends of the Library.
