DESCRIPTION:Join us for a unique experience where we’ll transform the library using VR art!\n\n\nUsing Tilt Brush software on our Meta Quest 2 VR headsets\, we will create a fully virtual art installation within the library! Each participant will have 30 minutes to paint anything they like over the real-life library environment. In the first week\, we’ll be transforming the junior fiction section\, and in the second week\, we’ll focus on the adult art wall. By the end of the two weeks\, we’ll have two interactive\, beautifully reimagined spaces for others to explore and contribute to. \nJoin us in the Junior Fiction Section for this session. \nNote: This is not a VR gaming session. We will exclusively be using Tilt Brush for this program. \nRegistration required – Limited space available. \nAges 7 and up

SUMMARY:Home Horizon Youth Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Our Your S.A.F.E. outreach program works with additional vulnerable youth to identify safe living spaces and provides direction to assist them in regaining control of their lives. Our S.A.F.E. outreach programs serve youth aged 16-29. Since the launch of this program in July 2020\,we have served 127 youth\, with over 1085 service interactions (referrals\, goalsetting\, supplies\, workshops\, etc.)\, many in the Wasaga Beach area. \nThrough our outreach services\, we supply important items such as tents\, sleeping bags\, food\, hygiene products\, grocery gift cards\, masks & sanitizers\, jackets\, hand warmers\, clothes\, and much more. \nThe program also provides support and advocacy for mental health\, physical health (new family doctor)\, legal matters\, financial aid\, rental/tenant advocacy as well as referrals to other housing agencies. \nThe program has been an incredible success to date. It helps one of our most vulnerable populations to avoid falling through the cracks\, providing every individual who come in contact with our outreach worker the chance to feel safe and heard. We work with all marginalized youth regardless of their race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, family situations and socio-economic background. \nOur programs are designed to assist youth struggling with social inequalities with tools that will help them to cope and grow stronger to manage and address any bias they face in life.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a unique and exciting workshop where you will discover the timeless art form of wet felting using Icelandic sheep wool!\n\n\nWBPL’s Artsy Adults Project funded by the Ontario Government’s Seniors Community Grant is offering a one of a kind workshop where you can explore the vibrant world of wet felting. Immerse yourself in this unique art form and discover the magic of transforming wool into beautiful art! In this hands-on workshop\, you’ll learn the essential techniques to shape\, mold and create your own spectacular felted pieces. No experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and enthusiasm! \nWBPL’s Artsy Adults Project is targeted to participants ages 55+ who have a WBPL library card. The workshops are free to attend and all materials will be provided. \nImportant Registration Details\nBecause WBPL expects high interest in Artsy Adults programs\, the library is implementing a lottery system to help ensure that as many older adults as possible are able to participate in the 10 creative programs planned for 2024/2025. \nTo participate\, please sign up on the waiting list for the programs that interest you by the specified cut-off date. Library staff will randomly select participants from the waiting list approximately 15 days prior to a program. These successful candidates will receive notification by email (or phone call if email is not available) and will be required to respond to confirm their seats.

DESCRIPTION:Marg Thibideau serves as the Academic Upgrading Officer at Georgian College’s John DiPoce South Georgian Bay Campus\, where she warmly welcomes inquiries about the Academic and Career Preparation Program. This program offers an array of FREE courses\, including Core Upgrading\, Career and College Preparation\, and Employment Readiness courses. Additionally\, comprehensive support is available for individuals preparing to write their General Education Development (GED) test. \nWith classes currently offered in both Collingwood and Wasaga Beach\, learners can opt for either in-class or remote delivery. Funded by the Ministry of Labour\, Immigration\, Training and Skills Development\, this program offers free upgrading to eligible learners aged 19 or older residing in Ontario\, with some applicants aged 16 to 18 also potentially eligible. \nClasses are Wednesdays 10am-12pm. Registration required.

This visual journey will highlight the RCAF’s capabilities across the decades and the diverse missions it has undertaken\, from humanitarian efforts to defense operations. Colonel Dore will provide insight on current day world events and threats to the RCAF’s future capabilities \nAs we delve into the past and present of the RCAF\, we’ll also commemorate a significant milestone: the RCAF’s 100th anniversary celebrated at Base Borden\, reflecting on a century of service and dedication. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the proud legacy of the RCAF and its pivotal role in Canada’s history\, both past and present. \nAbout the speaker:\nColonel Doré assumed command of 16 Wing in June 2023. Colonel Dore is a former resident of Wasaga Beach\, has occupied several positions in Borden such as Squadron Commander at the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering\, Deputy Commanding Officer at 400 Squadron\, and Commanding Officer at the Regional Cadet Support Unit for Central Region. He has experience with cadet operations\, RCAF maintenance operations\, and RCAF technical training operations. He is a former executive on the Wasaga Beach Minor Hockey Association
