DESCRIPTION:Are you researching your family’s history and having trouble dating your inherited photos?\n\n\n📅 Ages: Adults\n📌 Wasaga Beach Public Library card required for registration. \nA picture can be worth a thousand words\, as the saying goes. Join us with guest speaker Judith\, who will share her knowledge of fashion and clothing styles through the decades. \nShe will help to reveal some of the mysteries and stories to be told in old photos based on visual cues around clothing. Learn about clothing styles and trends through the decades\, military dress\, and accessories worn\, such as hats and jewelry you may see in your photographic treasures. \nLearn some detective skills to assist in dating your photos to narrow in on a photo’s era. Judith will focus her presentation on the late 1800s to WW1. Feel free to bring a photo of interest you’d like to learn more about and Judith will try her best to unravel the mysteries within by revealing what she sees. \nAbout the speaker: \nJudith is a local retiree with a background in museum archives and a specialization in the collection management of textiles. She is a historical interpreter and volunteer with the Collingwood Museum.

DESCRIPTION:You don’t have to be a teacher to teach literacy.\n\n\n📅 Ages: Adults\n📌 Wasaga Beach Public Library card required for registration. \nJoin veteran educator and multi-published author Arlene F. Marks as she walks you through some of the many (sneaky) ways to empower youngsters through reading and writing. There is a hands-on component\, so bring writing tools and be prepared to have fun. This workshop is appropriate for parents\, grandparents\, teachers\, and caregivers of children of all ages. \nAbout the facilitator: Arlene F. Marks has more than 20 years of classroom teaching experience and is the author of one literacy program (for grades 9 through 12) and co-author of another (for grades 4 through 8). She has also delivered writing workshops at numerous literary conferences and has led in-service literacy-teaching seminars for other educators. Since retiring from the classroom\, Arlene has written and published more than a dozen novels. Please register a seat for each person attending. \nHelp contribute to a collaborative community art project! \nIn partnership with the Town of Wasaga Beach\, the Library is seeking assistance from residents of all ages living in Wasaga Beach to contribute to a community-driven art project celebrating the unique stories and beauty of Wasaga Beach. \nParticipants will be guided to paint a themed square tile in watercolour embellished with posca marker. Completed tiles will be scanned to become part of a larger mural\, which will depict our Wasaga Beach shoreline and will be displayed along the back wall of the walking track in the new Wasaga Stars Arena. The mural will consist of 1\,176 tiles in total\, making it a prominent and lasting piece of public art. \nPlease register each participant separately with their library card number. \nNo experience is necessary. Spaces are limited. \n
