DESCRIPTION:Join renowned artist Laura Steels Hitchcock for a vibrant\, hands-on coloured pencil workshop.\n\n\nWBPL’s Artsy Adults Project funded by the Ontario Government’s Seniors Community Grant is excited to offer the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of coloured pencils with Laura Steels Hitchcock\, an award-winning coloured pencil wildlife portrait artist. \nThis engaging experience will take you on a journey through various techniques\, including layering\, blending\, and creating intricate textures. You’ll discover how to mix colours effectively and use various pencil types to achieve stunning effects. All materials will be provided—just bring your creativity and a willingness to explore! \nWBPL’s Artsy Adults Project is targeted to participants ages 55+ who have a WBPL library card. The workshops are free to attend and all materials will be provided. \nImportant Registration Details\nBecause WBPL expects high interest in Artsy Adults programs\, the library is implementing a lottery system to help ensure that as many older adults as possible are able to participate in the 10 creative programs planned for 2024/2025. \nTo participate\, please sign up on the waiting list for the programs that interest you by the specified cut-off date. Library staff will randomly select participants from the waiting list approximately 15 days prior to a program. These successful candidates will receive notification by email (or phone call if email is not available) and will be required to respond to confirm their seats.

DESCRIPTION:Let’s sew a holiday project over two sessions\, Nov 20th and 27th\, 2024.\n\n\nAdults. Must commit to both sessions. Class runs on both Nov 20th and Nov 27th. \nIn this step-by-step 2 week workshop\, participants will sew a festive Christmas stocking using the library’s sewing machines in preparation for the holiday season. Use your stocking as festive decor for your home or give as a gift for a loved one. You can be creative with some finer details like pockets or personalize with finishing touches. \nNote: This is not a beginner level workshop. Basic sewing machine skills required. This session is suitable for those who have completed WBPL’s “Machine Basics” class. \nThis class will be held on two consecutive Wednesday evenings beginning November 20th and concluding November 27th. SUMMARY:Home Horizon Youth Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Our Your S.A.F.E. outreach program works with additional vulnerable youth to identify safe living spaces and provides direction to assist them in regaining control of their lives. Our S.A.F.E. outreach programs serve youth aged 16-29. Since the launch of this program in July 2020\,we have served 127 youth\, with over 1085 service interactions (referrals\, goalsetting\, supplies\, workshops\, etc.)\, many in the Wasaga Beach area. \nThrough our outreach services\, we supply important items such as tents\, sleeping bags\, food\, hygiene products\, grocery gift cards\, masks & sanitizers\, jackets\, hand warmers\, clothes\, and much more. \nThe program also provides support and advocacy for mental health\, physical health (new family doctor)\, legal matters\, financial aid\, rental/tenant advocacy as well as referrals to other housing agencies. \nThe program has been an incredible success to date. It helps one of our most vulnerable populations to avoid falling through the cracks\, providing every individual who come in contact with our outreach worker the chance to feel safe and heard. We work with all marginalized youth regardless of their race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, family situations and socio-economic background. \nOur programs are designed to assist youth struggling with social inequalities with tools that will help them to cope and grow stronger to manage and address any bias they face in life.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a hands-on experience at our handbuilt pottery workshop over two sessions\, Nov 26th and Dec 3rd\, 2024.\n\n\nThis is an adult workshop. Must commit to both sessions. Class runs on both November 26th and December 3rd\, 2024\, from 11 AM to 1 PM. \nJoin us as we dive into the world of hand-built pottery\, where you will connect with fellow enthusiasts and unleash your creativity. This two-part workshop promises to be a fun and fulfilling experience that will leave you with a beautiful\, handcrafted piece to cherish! \nIn the first workshop\, you’ll learn the art of crafting a unique pottery piece using your hands. Various techniques and styles will be explored along the way. Stephen’s approachable teaching style makes it easy for everyone\, from beginners to more experienced potters\, to find their voice in clay. Upon completion of the first workshop\, Stephen will take the newly created pieces back to his studio for the first firing in his kiln. \nThe second workshop will be all about the glazing! This glass like coating enhances the appearance of your piece as well as adding durability. During this workshop\, Stephen will demonstrate how to prepare your piece to receive the glaze\, explain the different types of glazing and walk you through the various application techniques. As the final step\, Stephen will transport all the finished pottery back to his studio for the final firing in his kiln. \nYour pieces will be available for pick up at the library at a later date to be discussed during the final workshop. \nPlease Note: \nThis workshop consists of two sessions and requires participants to attend BOTH workshops in order to complete the handbuilt pottery process. Please ensure you are available to attend both dates before reserving your spot. Library membership is required. \nFree to participate. Supplies provided. \nSpace is limited to 15 registrants.

Join us for 10-minute lightning author talks as some of our talented local authors introduce themselves and their published works in the WBPL Learning Lab. \nAfter the talks\, you can visit these authors and many more at the Afternoon Reader’s Marketplace in the Re/Max Room NORTH from 1:00–3:30 PM\, where you’ll have the opportunity to purchase their books and chat at length. \nPlease note: Most authors will only be accepting cash or e-transfers\, so please plan accordingly. \n  \nAbout the Woven Word Symposium: \nThe Woven Word Symposium\, taking place on Thursday\, November 28\, 2024\, is a full-day celebration of storytelling and writing. It brings together authors and aspiring writers for a variety of workshops and events. Participants can explore topics such as writing for children\, self-publishing\, and memoir writing. The day also offers opportunities to join an open mic poetry session and attend a slam poetry performance. In the afternoon\, a Reader’s Marketplace will showcase children’s\, adult\, and young adult authors\, with their books available for purchase. The event will conclude with a special evening workshop on writing for monologue performance. \n  \n
