SUMMARY:Home Horizon Youth Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Our Your S.A.F.E. outreach program works with additional vulnerable youth to identify safe living spaces and provides direction to assist them in regaining control of their lives. Our S.A.F.E. outreach programs serve youth aged 16-29. Since the launch of this program in July 2020\,we have served 127 youth\, with over 1085 service interactions (referrals\, goalsetting\, supplies\, workshops\, etc.)\, many in the Wasaga Beach area. \nThrough our outreach services\, we supply important items such as tents\, sleeping bags\, food\, hygiene products\, grocery gift cards\, masks & sanitizers\, jackets\, hand warmers\, clothes\, and much more. \nThe program also provides support and advocacy for mental health\, physical health (new family doctor)\, legal matters\, financial aid\, rental/tenant advocacy as well as referrals to other housing agencies. \nThe program has been an incredible success to date. It helps one of our most vulnerable populations to avoid falling through the cracks\, providing every individual who come in contact with our outreach worker the chance to feel safe and heard. We work with all marginalized youth regardless of their race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, family situations and socio-economic background. \nOur programs are designed to assist youth struggling with social inequalities with tools that will help them to cope and grow stronger to manage and address any bias they face in life.

Participants MUST attend both dates: Wednesday\, April 9 & Wednesday\, April 16 from 1 – 3pm. \nJoin us for this beginner sewing class designed for adults with some sewing machine experience! Over two sessions\, you’ll learn how to create a pair of shorts with a patch pocket and elastic waist—perfect for casual wear or sleepwear. \n📅 This is a TWO-WEEK program on Wednesday afternoons. Participants must be available for both sessions to ensure they complete their project. \nWhat You’ll Need to Bring:\n🔹 Fabric of your choice (cotton broadcloth\, flannelette\, gingham\, or lightweight denim): \n\n1.5 yards if using 60” wide fabric\n1.75 yards if using 45” wide fabric\n(Fabric available at Fabricland\, Len’s Mill in Barrie\, or some Walmart stores.)\n🔹 Elastic: 1” width\, 1 yard (for the waistband)\n🔹 Thread (optional—library will provide thread\, but you may wish to bring your own matching thread)\n\n📌 Important Notes:\n✅ Pre-requisites: A WBPL library card AND completion of the WBPL Learn Machine Basics class OR previous experience with an electric sewing machine.\n✅ Attendance Commitment: This is a TWO-SESSION class. Volunteers will file tax returns for individuals and couples with a modest income and a simple tax situation; see below for eligibility guidelines. \nNOTICE: Clicking the registration link below will open a form to add your name to the waiting list. A volunteer will contact you directly to schedule a date and time for your tax appointment.  \nIn order to be eligible for the CVITP\, individuals must have a modest income of $35\,000.00 for an Individual\, $ 45\,000.00 for a couple\, and a simple tax situation. \nThis may include: \n\nadults 65 years and older\nhousing-insecure individuals\nIndigenous Peoples\nmodest-income individuals\nnewcomers\npersons with disabilities\nstudents\n\nIn general\, a tax situation is simple if an individual has no income or if their income comes from these sources: \n\nemployment\npension\nbenefits\, such as the Canada Pension Plan\, Old Age Security\, disability insurance\, employment insurance\, and social assistance\nRegistered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)\nscholarships\, fellowships\, bursaries\, or grants\ninterest (under $1\,000)\n\nThe CVITP does not provide training or support for complex tax situations.
