August 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Learn about the significance of the namesake of “Nancy Island” in Wasaga Beach. Step back in time to hear about the story of the HMS Nancy.

On August 14, 1814, the schooner Nancy, while in the service of the British Navy, was destroyed in the Nottawasaga River. During the engagement with a fleet of American battleships anchored just offshore, the ship burned and sank. Some historians believe the events involving the story of HMS Nancy in Georgian Bay helped save Canada from becoming an American state.
