Natural Pest Control: Good Bugs, Bad Bugs

May 22 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join Master Gardener Gail Cocker for a presentation that will cover insect pest identification and knowing your garden friends and enemies.

Insect pest controls are reviewed as well as a few myths busted. Learn how to attract beneficial bugs, birds, and toads to our gardens to help us keep the bad bugs in check naturally. This presentation will be in the Re/Max Room South.

About the speaker:
Gail has been a member of the Simcoe County Master Gardeners since 2017 earning her Master Gardener qualification in 2019. She earned her Horticulture Certificate from Guelph University in February 2020 and is one course away from her Diploma.

After 30 years in the corporate world, Gail expanded her garden boundaries from a suburban shade garden to a large country property in the hills of Mulmur Township. Starting with a large vegetable garden, protected from browsing deer by an 8’ fence, Gail grows a wide array of vegetables, herbs and fruit, which she preserves, dries or stores in her cold cellar. In search of her Mother’s garden, she has found her own with a full sun perennial garden, a lavender garden and a dedicated cutting garden. She is constantly increasing the % of native plants in her garden to restore and protect the local ecosystem. Gail and her husband are stewards of a 50 acre managed forest on their property, which involves annually planting seedlings, monitoring and elimination of invasive species and a regular maintenance program.

Gail is a member of the Creemore Horticultural Society and is very proud of the new garden beds she and her team designed for the Village Green project in the center of the Village of Creemore.
