Join us for a celebration of community through the power of poetry in a double poetry reading featuring acclaimed local poets Mary Barnes and Susan Wismer.
Mary Barnes — Of Ojibwe descent and winner of the Tom York Award for short fiction, Mary’s poetry blends vivid imagery with themes of nature, community, and personal journey. Her work has appeared in Prairie Journal, Tower Poetry Society, and Voicings, and she has been longlisted for The League of Canadian Poets Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Mary will share selections from her collections What Fox Knew and Moving Upstream, along with new works.
Susan Wismer — Based in Collingwood on Treaty 18 territory, Susan’s poetry is a graceful meditation on women, aging, love, loss, and redemptive friendship. Her debut full collection Hag Dances was released by At Bay Press in 2025, following her 2024 chapbook Hand Shadows, co-authored with dancers Michele Green and Suzette Sherman.
Together, Mary and Susan will present an inspiring hour of readings and conversation — a rare opportunity to experience the richness of our region’s literary voices. Books will be available for purchase after the event.
