Having children involved in the kitchen is not only educational, but it is a great way to help them build healthy eating habits.
Children develop many skills while helping out in the kitchen including:
Sensory: Having children in the kitchen exposes them to different textures, smells, tastes and colours. In the kitchen children utilize all five senses.
Motor: Being actively involved with food will help large and fine motor skills, as well food preparation helps develop hand eye coordination.
Social: Working with others gives children the opportunity to practice sharing, turn taking and cooperation.
Language: Children are exposed to new vocabulary such as names of kitchen tools, ingredients, cooking methods, and you can encourage conversations about food likes, dislikes and experiences children have with food.
