Christopher Blatch Appointed Director of Library Services and CEO of Wasaga Beach Public Library

The Wasaga Beach Public Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Blatch as Chief Executive Officer and Director of Library Services of the Wasaga Beach Public Library, effective May 20, 2025.

Blatch brings over two decades of leadership experience in libraries and other cultural institutions, including public libraries, school libraries, and museums. He has a personal interest in preserving the stories of communities and has a vast experience that has also included work in Archives and as a Historical Researcher. Most recently, he served as Director of Library Services at Drumheller Public Library in Alberta, where he was instrumental in advancing inclusive programming, developing responsive community partnerships, and expanding access to digital and in-person services. He holds a Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from the University of Alberta. In addition to his work in Libraries, he served as a Commissioned Infantry Officer in the Canadian Army and continues to be a strong advocate for veterans issues.

Known for his pragmatic leadership and innovative approach to service design, Blatch is particularly interested in how libraries can help communities meet their broader social, educational, and economic goals.

“I’m honoured to join the Wasaga Beach Public Library at such an exciting time,” said Blatch. “Libraries are powerful civic platforms. Whether we’re promoting digital literacy, supporting local families, or helping residents connect with services and each other, we have the tools and partnerships to make a meaningful impact. I look forward to working with staff, the board, and the community to grow a library that is accessible, responsive, and rooted in the values of Wasaga Beach.”

As the town continues to evolve, Blatch is committed to aligning library initiatives with Wasaga Beach’s broader priorities—such as promoting community health and well-being, building local partnerships, and helping to encourage economic diversification through innovative resource and programming growth. Under his leadership, the library will explore new ways to support early childhood development, help adults and seniors stay engaged and informed, and strengthen connections with youth and newcomers. The library will also continue to serve as a hub for digital access, workforce development, and cultural engagement.

Blatch is eager to ensure that the Wasaga Beach Public Library remains a vital, forward-looking institution that helps fulfill the town’s vision of a connected, sustainable, and thriving community.
