Meet Joe Shocrylas, our featured gallery artist for January and February, showcasing a collection of hockey-themed acrylic works on canvas. A self-taught artist and retired dentist, Joe’s paintings invite viewers to step back in time, capturing live-action moments and the nostalgia of the original six hockey heroes.
Drawing from historical black-and-white photographs, he reimagines each scene in vibrant colour, adjusting player and equipment positioning to create a renewed sense of movement. His technique uses varied brush strokes to highlight the contrast and tension, finesse and physicality that define the game of hockey.
