Not In My Name: A Powerful Exhibit at WBPL

The Wasaga Beach Public Library is proud to present “Not In My Name,” a powerful human rights exhibit by The Abraham Global Peace Initiative (AGPI), on display for the next two weeks. This impactful exhibit explores Canada’s complex role in the tragic story of the MS St. Louis, shedding light on broader themes of immigration, exclusion, and moral responsibility.

In 1939, Canada, along with other nations, denied entry to Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution aboard the MS St. Louis, a decision rooted in antisemitism and exclusionary immigration policies. Tragically, this refusal sealed the fate of hundreds, serving as a stark reminder of the catastrophic consequences of discrimination and indifference.

Through archival documents, poignant photographs, survivor testimonies, and interactive displays, visitors to “Not In My Name” will confront these historic injustices and the lasting impact of government inaction. But the exhibit does not stop at history—it boldly challenges visitors to connect the past to present-day issues of xenophobia, discrimination, and human rights violations worldwide.

“Not In My Name” has traveled extensively, exhibited in schools, museums, and prestigious institutions including the United Nations and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. It is designed as a powerful tool for education, reflection, and community dialogue, inviting visitors to examine their roles in creating a more inclusive, equitable society.

Join us at WBPL to experience this moving exhibit and declare your commitment to standing firmly against injustice, discrimination, and hatred. Together, we can learn from our past and shape a more compassionate, inclusive future.
