09 Aug Unleashing Creativity: Wasaga Beach Library Wins Grant to Launch Artsy Adults Program
Wasaga Beach Public Library (WBPL) is thrilled to announce its successful application for the Ontario Seniors Community Grant, a pivotal funding source that will enable the library to expand its community-focused programming with the launch of the “Artsy Adults” project. This innovative initiative is specifically designed to engage the town’s older adults in a series of artistic workshops aimed at fostering creativity, conversation, and community connections.
The “Artsy Adults” project will offer ten unique programs throughout the shoulder and winter months, providing seniors with opportunities to explore various artistic mediums under the guidance of regional artisans. These workshops will not only encourage creative expression but also serve as a crucial outlet for social interaction, helping to mitigate the effects of isolation that many seniors face during the colder months.
The library will work closely with a specially formed seniors working group, a dedicated team of volunteers who will assist in selecting the ideal artisans to lead these workshops. This collaboration ensures that the programming is tailored to the interests and needs of Wasaga Beach’s older adult community. The project is expected to engage more than 200 seniors, offering them a platform to develop new artistic skills while also fostering meaningful relationships with like-minded individuals.
One of the key features of the “Artsy Adults” project is its accessibility. The workshops will be offered free of charge, removing economic barriers and ensuring that all interested seniors can participate. The new Learning Lab at WBPL, a space specifically designed to support skills development and creativity, will serve as the hub for these activities. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with all the necessary tools and resources to facilitate hands-on learning and artistic experimentation.
The project aligns with WBPL’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, which focuses on expanding opportunities for lifelong learning, literacy, culture, and socialization. It also supports the Wasaga Beach Town Council Priorities, which include assisting seniors and vulnerable residents while simultaneously addressing the Town of Wasaga Beach Age-Friendly Community Plan by providing vital social, cultural, and recreational opportunities for older adults.
WBPL has a strong track record of supporting the local senior community through various programs funded by the Ontario Seniors Community Grant, with successful projects in 2023, 2020, and 2019. The “Artsy Adults” project continues this legacy, demonstrating the library’s commitment to enriching the lives of Wasaga Beach’s older adults through creative expression and community engagement.
